New Delhi, Dec 8: Vice- President Venkaiah Naidu on Thursday said the opponents of National Song Vande Mataram must explain who would they like to salute instead of their mother. Naidu was referring to criticism made by many religious organisations on salutations to their mothers. “If not the mother, who will you salute? Afzal Guru?” said Naidu. Afzal Guru, a terrorist from the Kashmir was executed for his involvement in Parliament attacks in 2001.
Addressing a book launch ceremony in the national capital on Thursday, Naidu said Hinduism remain “our culture, our tradition” which was passed to generations for years. He added the slogan of Bharat Mata ki Jai represents the 125 crore people of India irrespective of their caste, colour, creed and religion.
Naidu, remembering former President of Vishwa Hindu Parishad Ashok Singhal, Naidu said the ring-wing leader was one of the finest proponents of Hinduism. He added that the observation was of the Supreme Court was correct that Hinduism is a way of life.
“Hinduism is our culture our tradition which has been passed on from various generations. There could be different ways of worship, but there is only one way of life that in Hinduism,” Naidu was quoted by the Hindustan Times as saying.
